The truth is that tarrifs are paid by the domestic importers. It’s going to do more damage to American companies than Indian ones. The EU buys a tonne of “indian” oil at high markup knowing full well that it’s that same oil it used to buy directly for cheaper. I never understood this. America has declining influence over this and it really wouldn’t hurt India or Russia very much to put tariffs and sanctions in place. Certainly less than it would damage indo-American geopolitical relations. It won’t be so long before India is a bigger gdpppp economy than America anyway and then they get to dictate. The additional purchases of oil isn't for the benefit of the public, but is sold to EU for the profit of few firms such as Reliance and Nayara. This will continue as long as EU needs oil and middlemen retain their margins.

The price of oil did not decrease in the local setting, and the tariffs are going to hurt the citizens so the profiteers can continue to make money reselling oil. 

For the profit of the rich, the economic price will be paid by the nation. 

More importantly, the tariff war marks another grim reminder of two things: 
- The government showed its spineless nature by neither retaliating with counter-tariffs, nor instituting windfall profits tax on the oil firms benefiting off the scenario. 
- US proves itself a non-ally and the urgent need to develop internal autarky within one's country.
